Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a light-based skin treatment that targets a wide range of common concerns — including pigmentation, sun damage, redness (rosacea), freckles, broken capillaries and hair reduction. It can also help with skin tone and texture, giving your skin a brighter, more even appearance. Unlike lasers, IPL uses multiple wavelengths of light to treat various layers of the skin at once. It’s non-invasive, gentle, and ideal for anyone wanting clearer, more radiant skin without downtime.

How Does It Work?

IPL delivers controlled pulses of broad-spectrum light into the skin. This light is absorbed by pigment in dark spots and blood in broken vessels, gently heating and breaking them down. The body then naturally clears away the treated pigment or vessels over time.

Each session takes around 20–40 minutes, depending on the area treated. While the treatment is generally comfortable, you may feel a quick, warm snap with each pulse, similar to a rubber band flick.

There’s minimal downtime. Most clients experience slight redness or warmth afterwards, which typically fades within a few hours to a day.

Who Is It For?

IPL is ideal for clients concerned with sun spots, freckles or pigmentation, redness, rosacea, or broken capillaries, uneven skin tone, dull, tired-looking skin, mild skin texture concerns.

It works best on lighter skin tones and may not be suitable for deeper complexions due to the way light energy is absorbed. We always conduct a skin assessment to ensure safety and suitability before starting treatment.

What to Expect

You’ll start with a thorough skin consultation. During treatment, ultrasound gel is applied and you’ll wear protective goggles. The IPL handpiece is then passed over the skin, delivering light pulses. You may feel a quick snap and warmth, but most clients find it quite tolerable.

After treatment, your skin may be slightly red or feel warm, like mild sunburn. Pigmentation may temporarily darken, which is a good sign, it usually fades or flakes off within a week. You’ll need to avoid sun exposure and wear SPF daily.

For best results, we recommend a series of treatments spaced a few weeks apart.

FAQs

1. How many IPL sessions will I need?
Most clients see visible improvement after 2 – 3 sessions, but a course of 4 – 6 treatments is often recommended for longer lasting results, depending on your skin concerns.

2. Is IPL painful?
You may feel a brief snapping or heat sensation with each pulse, but it’s generally quick and manageable. Ultrasound gel is used to keep the skin comfortable throughout.

3. Is there downtime after IPL?
There’s minimal downtime. You may have mild redness, warmth, or temporary darkening of pigmentation. Most clients resume normal activities the same day.

4. Can IPL treat acne or acne scars?
IPL can help reduce redness and inflammation associated with acne, and improve the look of post acne pigmentation, but it’s not suitable for active, cystic acne. We may recommend alternative treatments if acne is your main concern.

5. What areas can be treated with IPL?
Common areas include the face, neck, chest, shoulders, and hands, anywhere sun damage, redness, or pigmentation appears. It’s a great way to even out skin tone in areas often exposed to the sun.

Hair reduction can be performed on all areas of the body.
